Whether you're on a Zoom call or walking into a conference room, first impressions are forming—and they matter more than most people realize. You never know who's in the room. You don't know who's evaluating you, who could become your advocate, or which moment might change the trajectory of your career.
Are you camera-on? Are you leaned in and engaged? Are you prepared for the conversation? People notice. They're paying attention, even when you think they're not.
Now, this doesn't mean you have to be "on" all the time—that's exhausting and unsustainable. But it does mean recognizing when presence matters most. When you're walking into something important, show up ready. Because that five-second window could open doors you didn't even know existed.
